- Pyrethrum -   It is very important that you ask to see the label before purchasing any chemicals or insecticides.  Use them only in a manner that is consistent with the label.   Botanical-Pyrethrin   Pyrethrin is the active ingredient most commonly used in outdoor misting systems.  Pyrethrins are contact poisons which quickly act upon the nervous system in insects.  They are generally combined with a ‘synergist’, a chemical that enhances the pyrethrins effectiveness on the insect’s nervous system.  Pyrethrin is quickly degraded by sunlight and typically has little residual associated with it.   Click here for Riptide   Click here for Pyronyl 303 Concentrate PA Reg No. 655-801    Synthetic-Permethrin    A man-made or synthetic version of pyrethrum is permethrin.  Permethrin does not have the “knock-down” effect of pyrethrin, but does have the benefit of a longer lasting residual effect because it is not as quickly degraded by sunlight.   Click here for Sector
